“the blacklist” series premiere review

blacklistTitle: The Blacklist
When/Where: 10PM, NBC
Original prediction: Appointment TV
On 2nd thought: Appointment TV

Monday night will prove itself to be a busy night for television thanks to the addition The Blacklist starring the brilliant James Spader, last seen creeping out the employees of The Office. I’m calling it now, Emmy nomination for Mr. Spader for his role as a well connected, highly intelligent criminal, on par with network mate Dr. Hannibal Lector, minus the desire to eat people. “sleepy hollow” series premiere review

Sleepy-Hollow-TitleTitle: Sleepy Hollow
When/Where: 9PM, FOX
Original prediction: Cancelled
On 2nd thought: DVR season pass/Appointment TV

From the very beginning I had my doubts this show will last. Why? It’s hard to say. Sometimes I just have a feeling about a show that it just might not catch on or gain an audience. But based on reactions from Twitter mixed with my own, I’m prepared to eat my words predicting this show will be on the cancelled list. FOX might have it’s first new hit drama of Fall 2013. night moves

I keep a mixed CD that I titled “Night Lights” in my car. It’s playlist contains songs that, to me, are perfect nighttime driving, designed with particular backdrops in mind like the Hartford skyline via I-91. Such was the case tonight, coming home from East Hartford, even though I ended up not driving through those particular Hartford lights, but the music fit the mood and the ride nonetheless.

The playlist contains songs that, like I said, have a feel for the night, whether it explicitly is about the night or perhaps lights shown at night like Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” to “Dancing in the Moonlight” to Maxwell’s “Lifetime.” It’s an eclectic list.

“iron man 3” film review

I may have fibbed to a few people when I said I’d be doing a video review for this film. I apologize. I almost shot a video in my car moments after leaving the theater, but I was way too sleepy. Kudos to the theaters having earlier premieres than midnight. Some of us have work on Friday morning (that I almost slept through). But hey, this film declares summer is here!

IM3 picks up some time after last years mega hit The Avengers. Tony Stark is having serious anxiety problems, most of which stem from the events in that film. I say that so people who have admitted to me they haven’t seen IM1 or 2 can skip to Avengers just to get familiar with what’s going on so they can see this one. Anyway, besides Stark’s personal demons, he has a new villain to face by the name of The Mandarin. I had to run over to Wikipedia just to get a background on who he is and what he does. I’m not going to explain here. Kudos to the brilliant actor Sir Ben Kingsley. The plot mostly comes from the Iron Man story arc “Extremis” which for a while was on Netflix Instant. Read more ›

oscars 2013 recap

I was in no condition to write a recap after the 14 hour telecast of the Movie Super Bowl. Then again, I really didn’t intend on writing anything at all. That is, of course, I got curious on how I did last year with my predictions. To my surprise, I did better this year compared to last year! Read more ›

oscar predictions 2013

For the most part, this year I did my own research to come up with my own predictions. And by “research” I mean comparing all winners from recent award shows like the Golden Globes and various film critic circles. Normally I tend to find a chart that has all these winners already, but this year I didn’t ind one until long after I made my picks. Special thanks to Huffington Post, the ones I really couldn’t figure out I decided to side with them.

The Academy Awards are more social this year and have released their own app that, of course, has a voting ballet that you can share on Twitter and play with friends on Facebook. This is probably the only game I’d play on Facebook, by the way. I’m talking to you, people that constantly invite me to play casino games or whatever. Stop it. Anyway, the app is both on Apple and Android devices. It also has other trivia, trailers and loads of other stuff film and Oscar geeks would drool about. I kept my drooling to a minimum in case you were wondering.

Lastly, for a few more insights on my predictions, you can listen to this episode of The Lost Dial.

On to the nominees! Read more ›

i survived 2012

Hurray friends! We’ve made it through another year. Although there were a select few of you that may have wondered if we would survive a mere 11 days ago (depending when you read this, that’s supposed to be December 21, 2012). I meant to check the groceries stores that day to see if bottled water and canned soup cleared the shelves, but there was no need seeing that nothing spectacular happened. Well, a fuse in my car blew, but that’s about it. Read more ›

a new lifestyle – graveyard

matthewcarden.com

Someone once told me that working third shift shortens your life by some kind of a percentage I didn’t bother to remember. Any studies or figures that say such and such would shorten your life, like smoking, not exercising, or robbing banks, I always take with a grain of salt because there are too many variables… like getting hit by a bus or eaten by a Cloverfield monster. Has Hollywood taught us nothing about the frailty of life?

I wondered why they called third shift the “graveyard shift” …but I just assumed back in olden times, that’s when gravediggers would be working. It was one of those professions daytime folks would be revolted to see in the light of day. I then wondered why it wasn’t nicknamed the prostitution shift. But with further musing, I came to the conclusion that even back then, the oldest profession was probably worked day and night. Plus, I’d think more people would rather identify with gravediggers vs hookers.

pimp daddy pillow

Today I’ve only really had two things on my mind: get money, get sleep. I woke up this morning from the best sleep I’ve had all year just to do a quick audio consultant job (something I’ve been told I should add on my business card), got paid and went back home for a quick continuation. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and out of habit, I made myself a cup of coffee. A scare from a grotesque spider and a couple hours later, I was off to pick up more cash for some tech work I did previously. We shot the chilly breeze briefly as we discussed future work. Meanwhile the clouds were rolling in, turning into ideal slumber conditions. Tonight, I’ll be working at a toy store and also picking up another check, hence my looking forward to a nap. All day I’ve been longing to be reunited with my warm bed. It’s gettin cold out here for a pimp.

a christian foodie

I took a look back at the recent pics on my Twitter feed and found that the majority of them were either pictures of food, or Bible scriptures. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I just found that to be amusingly interesting and wonder if people might think that this is what’s most important to me. Read more ›
