the jinx: the life and deaths of robert durst [review]

HBO aired a 6 part documentary on the “eccentric heir” by the name of Robert Durst. Not sure why I put that in quotes, because it’s true. But if you were like me, you probably had no idea who this guy was and there’s a good chance that you still don’t, unless of course you’ve been watching HBO for the past couple months or happens to be on Twitter during the last week. This is one of the few times I’m not going to worry about spoilers, but regardless of what I say, I’m telling you now that this is something quite interesting to watch.

I went in this documentary blind. I literally had no clue who this guy was, or who the people he allegedly killed were, or why this documentary was even being made about him. Actually the title somewhat grabbed me… Life and Deaths? Did he have multiple identities and kept killing his alter egos? Read more ›

my last words

An interesting phenomenon has been happening in this new age of technology, that when we pass away, we leave behind a legacy that lives on forever in social media. This was my thought today coming home from work, as I listened to one of my favorite podcasts talking about celebrities that pass away and their last tweets while they were still with us. I’m sure there might be a hashtag game that involves what your last tweet would be. (Literally, it’s #mylastwordswillbe) God forbid, your last tweet actually be “Cutting down a tree with a butter knife. Wish me luck. #mylastwords” and you died shortly after in some ironic way.

But then it got me thinking about my search history. Whether or not I have a questionable search history is one for God and the NSA to decide, but I wondered what I would want my last Google search to be. Better yet, what would have been my last Google search had I died earlier this afternoon. The answer? Read more ›

violated!

You know what term I don’t hear anymore? “Computer whiz.” I was called that in my younger years and had I embraced it further, perhaps I could have worked my way into being a hacker. I jokingly call myself a hacker, but I am nowhere near what real hackers are capable of doing. I have taken coding classes in high school, but that was so long ago that I don’t think anyone codes in those languages anymore. I barely had an understanding on HTML and I think that’s even outdated. Maybe, maybe not. My point is I’m not a real hacker. Yet I’ve once again been a victim of being hacked with a sprinkling of identity theft. Read more ›

episode 3 – @ the oscars review [podcast]

indoobcastI have to say that this episode is about a week late, I apologize, but it’s here. I kept running into delays and flat out excuses. But nevertheless, here is episode 3 with a great friend of mine, Laura Meoli-Farrigon. I can’t promote enough all the wonderful things she’s doing so please check out the links as well as this special episode.

I’m calling this episode “special” because unlike the format I’m going for, it’s pretty much a straight episode with the two of us bantering about the Oscars and a few various topics such as a recent obsession. I also like to mention that you’ll hear Chief in the background. Also, there is a slight echo, in case that bothers anyone, I’m aware of it. Enjoy regardless!

Listen to episode 3 here!

the core

BoomChocolatta_closedThanks to the influence of my wonderful, beautiful, role model sister, I have followed in her footsteps with being obsessed with Ben & Jerry’s new Cookie Core ice cream. If you haven’t tried any of the three flavors yet, I highly recommend it. However, in fear of my favorites being sold out, I almost don’t want to tell you where to find them. Plus my sister beat me up for giving the biggest non-secret in your local grocer’s freezer.

Let me point out that I don’t admit to being obsessed with too many things. In fact, it’s a very short list (in no particular order): Read more ›

“unbreakable kimmy schmidt” review

uksOn March 6th (happy birthday Dad!) Netflix premiered it’s newest hit series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt  from the hilariously talented and beautiful Tina Fey, starring Ellie Kemper whom the titular role was written for and is expertly crushing. I have so many thoughts on this show as I’ve already started binging on it for the second time. So there, you already know how I feel, minor obsession, but let me explain why.

First of all, I’m a huge fan of 30 Rock. And I can honestly say that if you love that show, you’ll love this one. I’ve read a few reviews that contained the phrase “shared DNA” between the two shows because both series have so much in common. And sometimes this might come off as being a copycat or “more of the same” but alas, this is the Ocean’s 13 to 30 Rock. That analogy might actually be pretty accurate. Read more ›

3 things you should do before the day is over

I don’t plan to take up too much of your time today, but after much thought and discussion (with Chief, who ignored me and continued to take the stuffing out of his squeaky toy) I compiled a short list of things everyone needs to do before the day is over. Okay, okay… things everyone should do before the day is over. In no particular order: Read more ›

delays

It’s inevitable. Nothing in life is ever always on-time.

Except for God.

But let’s keep it light.

Light traffic. A line at the gas pump. Extreme wind chill factors. (That might fall under the “God exception” too, since weather is an act of God, but we’ll get back to that later.) The oven wasn’t as hot as you thought it was and those cookies haven’t browned around the edges yet. Or in my case, delays due to minor insecurities and/or unpreparedness. Read more ›

chief vs the stink bug

2014-11-18 18.01.33Normally, Monday through Friday, I’m the first to wake up. And by “wake up” I mean actually emerge from my bed to start the day. Chief, on the other hand, always seems to be awake. Or the very least, alert. He may not move from his slumber position, but he’ll open his big brown eyes to see every little move I make and whether or not I open my bedroom door to alert the “start of the day.” And even then, it might be a false start as he knows I take advantage of indoor plumbing and will return to my own slumber position moments later.

Every Monday through Friday it’s always the same thing. Buzzing alarms from 4:05 am until the latest 6 am. Each time I hit snooze on one of two alarms I’m mentally preparing for whatever the day might bring to me. Read more ›

2015 oscar picks

I’m super late but I had my predictions written out but not posted anywhere. I did chat about them on this episode of the indoob podcast, and I also realized I made up a couple nominations! Oops, sorry. Unless I copy/pasted a list that has an error. While I know many of my blerd folk might be boycotting the show tomorrow due to the lack of diversity this year, I’ll still be watching and live-tweeting with extra snark. I’ve also been slacking this year and I’ve only seen “Selma”, “Gone Girl” and half of “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. So follow me Sunday night on Twitter @indoob. In the meantime, let’s see how well I do: Read more ›
