the core

BoomChocolatta_closedThanks to the influence of my wonderful, beautiful, role model sister, I have followed in her footsteps with being obsessed with Ben & Jerry’s new Cookie Core ice cream. If you haven’t tried any of the three flavors yet, I highly recommend it. However, in fear of my favorites being sold out, I almost don’t want to tell you where to find them. Plus my sister beat me up for giving the biggest non-secret in your local grocer’s freezer.

Let me point out that I don’t admit to being obsessed with too many things. In fact, it’s a very short list (in no particular order):

Cheese
Cinnabons
Title sequences
Girls with dimples
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Ocean’s Eleven (Twelve and Thirteen)
Zoe Saldana
The sound of paper ripping slowly

I think I can put Spectacular Speculoos AND Boom Chocolatta! on that list.

Unlike my sister (and brother-in-law), I cannot choose just one (they prefer Boom Chocolatta!) and believe you SpectacularSpeculoos_closedme, both are indeed delicious and mildly addicting. And after I finish off one, I will crave the other with 24-72 hours. I’m not a complete fiend. In fact, I’ve been obsessing in moderation and generally only eating half a pint per sitting.

Interestingly enough, sometimes the very thing I like about Ben & Jerry’s is something I occasionally can do without: the stuff. You know, the extra additions they put in like chocolate chunks or Swedish fish or whatever. Sometimes, all I really want is Ben & Jerry’s: Uninterrupted. I know if that were the case, I should just get regular vanilla ice cream and sometimes I do, because sometimes that’s all I want. No interruptions. Just smooth creamy flavor.

But I’m here to talk about Cookie Cores and why they are amazing. The Speculoos has a cookie butter core that runs down the middle of the carton, with Speculoos cookie pieces spread throughout. The Chocolatta has a chocolate cookie core in it’s carton with chocolate ice cream with fudge chunks on one side and vanilla ice cream with chocolate cookie pieces on the other. The third one is a peanut butter cookie of some kind I have yet to try. I like Nutter Butters, I like peanut butter, and I like peanuts, but I have no real desire to try Peanut Buttah. Maybe one day. And to answer the question I’m asked whenever I talk about Speculoos: no I don’t know what they are other than some kind of cinnamon cookie. I don’t ask questions, I just eat it. I say you should too, but none of mine because I’m probably not going to share.
