I don’t plan to take up too much of your time today, but after much thought and discussion (with Chief, who ignored me and continued to take the stuffing out of his squeaky toy) I compiled a short list of things everyone needs to do before the day is over. Okay, okay… things everyone should do before the day is over. In no particular order:
Learn
Enrich your mind with a good book (if you’re a fast reader) or a good Wikipedia article (almost any of them will do). I can lose a good hour hanging out with the good folks at Mental Floss as they always have what might at first seem like useless facts until it shows up on Trivia Crack. Or look up a good documentary. HBO and Netflix have extensive catalogs and can be a good way to kill 90 minutes.
Laugh
Comedy is subjective, so I’m not going to recommend Kevin Hart’s latest comedy special or reruns of Arrested Development. I’d say both are pretty funny, however I still can’t find any humor in the Three Stooges. Give me the Marx Brothers any day. And if none of those options are available, surely you have a friend or two that can tell a pretty good Aristocrats joke. (Easily offended? Don’t look that up. You’re welcome.)
Love
Call someone up right now and tell them you love them. If that’s too strong of a word, then say you care about them. And I do mean call. Whether it’s on your smartphone (remember when all a phone could do was make calls?) or you’re shouting across the room, it’s important to cherish those you care about and to do it often. Don’t wait for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries or funerals to let someone special know that they are special.
These things shouldn’t just be done by the end of the day, but should be repeated everyday. It should be one of the cornerstones of a healthy life. How many cornerstones should life have? Please let me know. It should have at least 3. Make today great: Learn. Laugh. Love. Go!
