Technically this song is old news if you are following along with Kanye’s GOOD Fridays. All the songs on his website are free for the taking, so enjoy. Oddly enough, it was difficult to find a YouTube sampling of the remix to stream here, even though I’m sure there are other places I could find the song to stream. Anyway, if you like what you hear, you can get it from Kanye’s website for free (for now).
What I like about this remix is that is how similar it sounds to the original, like the drum beat, the chanting, even the style Kanye raps his verses. Some remixes almost change all of this and it sounds like a totally different song, and sometimes nothing is changed at all and it’s more of a part 2 rather than the song being remixed. I’m not exactly an expert on “the remix” but basically, I just like what I hear on this one which is the extra ominous sounding instruments as well as the soulful singing during the chorus. To me it sounds like John Legend, but he’s such a big name now that I’m sure he would’ve had his name featured, unless he’s being modest. He seems like the type that would pull a favor for his old buddy. But the simple answer is that it could be Dwele who West has also been working with as of late. Anyway, I’ve been feeling the harmonizing going on.
Around the 3 minute mark, the song takes a crazy turn with Swizz Beatz and Kanye dropping another lengthy verse about power before going off into what sounds like his usual musings about women that don’t like him. Typical silly Kanye. But still in top form if I say so. And I’m not ignoring Jay-Z who kicked off the song, doing his thing as usual.
But let’s get to what everyone keeps talking about (and one of the reasons why people keep coming to my blog). What I constantly keep seeing on the YouTube boards are claims of more Illuminati references from both West and Jay-Z. I had done research since my last visitation to Kanye’s “Power” music painting interpretations and came to the conclusion that most of the sources I read about the Illuminati were all biased versus information about the Free Masons. What that means is there is no concrete history about them and what they do or even if they exist whereas the Free Masons do exist and are like adult Boy Scouts. But hey, that’s what a secret society is all about, being a secret? My opinion is that if you were part of a secret society, you wouldn’t really make secret references to it in your songs, videos and art work. What’s the point? And even if they did, so what?
Conspiracies and theories will always be around. I’m sure some of them are true. Others might be rumors that are way out of hand. I personally think, and again, just my opinion, that as intelligent as Jay-Z and Kanye are, they could be adding a little fuel to the fire. And if they are making great music in the process, I could care less if they are members of a secret society planning on dominating the world or not. Regardless, they have a pretty good idea of what it means to have power.
