that’s not lady gaga! …but she approves

One day, I was bruising through my favorite magazine (actual and online), Entertainment Weekly, and came across this article.

Unfortunately, I was at work and couldn’t actually view the video posted in the article until I was at my own PC. Due to the fact that the “Bad Romance” video was the key factor that finally flipped me into a Gaga fan, I felt the need to check out this so-called parody. Some of you have already seen this on my Facebook page when I first saw it, but here it is again for your viewing pleasure. I had to share and give credit where credit is due. (NOTE: there is a “bloopers” section the last portion of this video that’s NSFWish, full of swears. I don’t feel it’s necessary, but hey, these kids are having fun, let ’em enjoy it.)

Not only do I think their version is awesome and ultra accurate to the original, I love how creative they were in recreating the scenes, shots and “special effects.” Even the wardrobe is impressive. As if to say, “Even you can be Lady Gaga!” Super kudos! On top of all that, recognition from the Lady herself! Nothing quite like being recognized by your idol. But that’s another reason why I appreciate her as an artist: a fan of her fans.

I’m including the back story found on the YouTube page.

So, here’s the story. Two of us got Flips for Christmas. And we were all in the car, and Bad Romance comes on the radio. So naturally, we start rocking out to it, dancing in the car like a bunch of freaks. Ian, being the thinker, whipped out his Flip and started recording it. When the song was over, we realized he never hit record. First we were all “Oh maan.” Then we were all “LET’S REMAKE THE ACTUAL VIDEO!” Finally we were all “WHOO! YEAAAH! \(:D)/” A big thank you goes out to Lady Gaga for tweeting our video! Since then, views have exploded!

So here you go. Enjoy!! Of course, our video will never be as good as the original.

I con promise this won’t be the last time I’m blogging about her. Love her or hate her, she’s someone to pay attention to. I know she’s got mine.

“the iron giant” film review

(I’m the resident film reviewer at my job’s monthly newsletter. Here’s my latest review for the month of January.)

I’ll admit that I’ve been slacking lately in my movie-watching experiences and have neglected films of a certain major target audience: family. I went through a list of recent movies I’ve watched and came up pretty short on movies worth writing about that fits in that genre. So I had to dig in my own movie collection to see what might fit the family flick group besides any and ever Pixar movie to date.

Actually, I didn’t stray too far from Pixar. Master storyteller Brad Bird gave us what I believe is an often overlooked and under appreciated gem of a tradition animated feature called The Iron Giant.

Before I jump into that movie, Brad Bird is the guy who brought us the Pixar hits The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Unfortunately, I can’t watch The Incredibles for a couple years due to my lovely niece and her fondness of the repeat button. Fortunately, however, I don’t remember the dialogues verbatim anymore, so there’s some progress. But no disrespect to these movies whatsoever. They appeal to kids and adults alike. These are movies where kids are welcomed and encouraged to view with you, but not necessary. And at the same time, parents can rest assured letting their kids be merry and dandy watching it on their own over and over again. But hey, it’s definitely important to watch what your children watch, even though there are some movies (and TV shows) that require another stimulant of some kind just to keep you from drifting off into madness. I just want to clarify and not mislead anyone into mistaking “family movie” with “children’s movie.” Believe you me (what does that mean, anyway?), there is a difference. The Iron Giant is a family movie. Humans and robots of all ages are allowed to enjoy.

I saw the movie for the first time as teenager. A cool movie about a boy and his giant robot romping around the woods. I got the point of the story, I laughed, got tearful around the end, it entertained me overall, but that was about it.

Then I got older, and thanks to a suggestion (and great review from famed storyboard artist, Karen Lloyd), I watched it again. I missed a lot of the subtle humor and subtexts that adults tend to pick up but are missed by kids. It’s not their fault, it’s intended to be that way. Some good “kids shows” are designed that way, too. Shows like Animaniacs and Sponge Bob were and are well aware of its adult fans, and throw in things for them to appreciate. That’s why they make sleepware for grown men with Sponge Bob on them. I don’t advise going out in public with them, but that’s your choice. But these storytellers want adults to be entertained too. And I forgot to mention, for an animated movie around the 90’s, I’m so happy there were no big song and dance numbers involved. Disney may be the only animated studio to pull this off effectively in their own movies, but I know that’s a turn-off for many adults including myself.

Not only did I pick up on the subtle humor in The Iron Giant, but the plot made more sense. Not that there was a deep analytical study or anything. The story takes place during the tense times of the Cold War. I wasn’t savvy to what all of that was about at a mere 13 years of age. So the paranoia these characters were feeling was lost on me, but at the time, I understood enough to know that the government had the wrong idea.

Also impressive to me at an older age: Vin Diesel. Most of the time, to me anyway, he seems like a laughable actor. But I won’t lie, I like a few of his movies despite the flaws. But his role in this movie voicing this innocent man of metal just seemed to fit so perfectly. I won’t say Oscar-worthy, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. The giant doesn’t talk much, but when he does, it’s fitting.

Overall, this is a good movie to show next time you’re entertaining guests, especially with kids. It’s probably not the #1 movie for your next gathering, even if they are all mature adults. But don’t let this “cartoon movie” go unwatched even if it’s just a movie for two.

on to the next one: evil/artistic?

I would make this a friPod post, but there’s a lot going on here with this video that I wasn’t aware of, and I wanted to showcase it in it’s own post. Honestly, I wasn’t aware there was even a video for this song until last Saturday evening.

Long story short, today I’m presenting one of Jay-Z’s newest music videos “On To The Next One.” If you haven’t seen the video, scroll down. I warn you now, not for the kiddies due to language and maybe even some of the imagery. Quite possibly my first NSFW? I don’t think it’s that extreme. My entire blog can’t be viewed at my job anyway so it doesn’t really matter. All I’m saying is, if you are offended by course language, this isn’t for you. If you are offended by possibly (allegedly) satanic images, this isn’t for you either.

I liked this song way before the video came out. Once I saw the video for myself  for the first time after reading a two sentence review that was saying how artistically intriguing it is (A bizarre and haunting series of black-and-white images surrounds … The striking imagery—is that a sneaker bleeding milk?—will completely transfix you. –Entertainment Weekly, #1086). Indeed, it certainly was. I was waiting for the bleeding sneaker.

The protesters of the video claim Jay-Z is dabbling in the occult and the proof is in the video, as well as a few songs through lyrics. They point out various images such as the crucifix between two bullets or the ram’s skull which could represent a symbol of Satan. Surely their arguments are plausible and valid. A lot of artists leave it up to the viewer to interpret their work to make up their own minds. Salvador Dali, anyone? (Like this video, he is a famous surreal artist and painter.)

I mean, I heard rumors about Jay-Z before thinking he was bigger or better than God, hence the nickname “Hova” and all… But whether that’s true or not, no one can definitely say, except for him, or maybe Beyonce. Further critics say he is also a Mason, as in Free Mason, as in the secret society that possibly still controls our government and maybe the world. Or the Illuminati. I guess one of their symbols is the way they show the number three, with the three lines? Okay. Granted, the Free Masons and Illuminati are known for hiding symbols and themes all over the place. But Jay-Z? Critics feel it’s not a coincidence that Jay-Z chose this three lined image for the symbol for his album.

While the evidence does mount up to leave you to draw your own conclusions, the source says otherwise. Long story short, no one is involved in anything dark or mysterious with the making of this video. Conspiracy theorists probably wouldn’t be surprised by their answer, but the way some theorists are, there is no convincing them the Earth is round even if you take them in a space shuttle. (Apparently, there are still some people who believe Earth is flat.)

What the stank?

Where do I stand? I’ll agree that some of these images are disturbing and creepy. And yeah, I thought some images were borderline satanic. It’s definitely not the most cheerful or colorful video he’s made. I probably wouldn’t put such images in my music video, but then again, I think they were going for a creative visual look. Also, many of the images, creepy or not, directly relate to the lyrics. Visual word play anyone? Anyone who has heard this song prior to the video, did you think of images like this before hand? Just curious. I like a video that surprises my expectations.

And sometimes you need to strike your audience with something controversial. Religion and secret societies has always been somewhat eyebrow-raising when brought to center stage.

I personally don’t believe there are dark forces at work behind this video. But you know how people can be: they will believe whatever they want and analyze it to death to prove their point. Again, I see where they are coming from. But I see this as artistic and creative. You see the same thing is movies that prominently feature the devil or his minions antagonizing characters and no religious groups or critics are complaining about that. I say it’s all the sake of entertainment. Something new and different. I also think it’s one of the few times something like this is featured in a hip hop video, versus rock or metal. I could be wrong.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Everything is not for everybody. So with that, on to the next one…

fripodding and haiti: “one blood” deitrick haddon

Once again, I’ve been away longer than I intended. Life has been a little crazy and a little busy, but rest assured, things are good. Anything that isn’t, well, will soon get better in time.

One such thing I’ve been particularly keeping tabs about these past couple weeks is the tragedy in Haiti. I urge everyone to donate anything you can. Donations aren’t just about money, ya know. Clothes, food, blood, or even just your time. Surely there is an organization close to your home that will accept volunteers like you to help get supplies together to be shipped to the people suffering in Haiti. And of course, there’s always prayer. Never underestimate prayer. Let’s all come together and share love.

With that, today’s friPod is from one of my favorite gospel singers, singing a song that can actually be considered not-really-gospel. Deitrick Haddon singing “One Blood,” found on his latest and awesome album Revealed. Overall, this song is talking about humanity. Everyone on this planet has a common bond: we all have the same blood. Now is not the time to be technical and say things like “I’ve got B+ or O-!” Although, I’m probably the only who might say that, but you get what I’m saying.

The point is that we are all connected. This song was released way before this event happened, but it’s pretty relevant to what’s going on in Haiti. I felt it was appropriate to share the message. The message is simple: show love. And not just in Haiti, but everywhere. So keep this song in mind. And hopefully you’ll be inspired to donate to the cause if you haven’t already. Later today there is a telethon (on just about every other channel) so check it out. Since its payday, I’m doing what I can. Every little bit helps.

Lastly, be safe and wise about where you are donating. One of the easiest ways in today’s time is texting. To help with relief efforts, text “HAITI” to “90999” and $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross, charged to your cell phone bill. There are dozens of other ways. My request is that you donate for the right reasons. Matthew 6:1-4

fripodding and comforting: “use somebody” kings of leon

I’m not terribly familiar with Kings of Leon, yet I had to have iTunes Store help me out and preview of few of their essentials. Perhaps I need more time to get into their groove, since none of their other songs really struck me in the same vein as Use Somebody did. Or has.

I recently learned that I have a slightly deeper connection to this song than I originally thought. It’s definitely a “writer thing” to get entangled in a good song’s lyrics. And that’s what happened with this song, besides the melody, beats, vocals and overall musicality of this song. I’ll talk about that in a bit. But after jumping over to Songfacts.com, I read this interesting line: “Frontman Caleb Followill wrote this song about longing for somebody to have a cuddle with while feeling lonely on the road. He said on his band’s website: ‘It’s about being far from home.'” The nice thing is I sorta already had that impression before reading it. Plus the music video also gives that sense: being on tour but wishing to be home with someone special.

As for what attracted me to the song, I’d say first and foremost is Caleb’s voice. (I’ll add that, again, not knowing anything about this band, the face didn’t really match with the voice to me when I first saw a picture of them… but that’s just me.) I love the gravelly, rough, almost pleading sound of it. And then of course how he hits those “use” and “make” just before the chorus. Then those instrumental parts. To me, a song says more when it has less. As the lead is singing, you just hear the guitar until it starts to build to a climax. You can feel that rise until it explodes with the singing of he could “use someone like you” or for “make you notice [him]!” And I hope you do notice. This man is nearly crying for someone, anyone! That’s what I hear in this song, through his voice and music played.

The lyrics are pretty nice too. I admit, I had to look them up to get a better understanding, but it helped me like the song more when I did.

Off in the night, while you live it up, I’m off to sleep
Waging wars to shape the poets and the beat
I hope it’s gonna make you notice…
I hope it’s gonna make you notice…
Someone like me.

Man I love some good lyrics. And after listening to this song a few times, I feel that it’s a pretty passionate and powerful song and I’m glad I stopped to listen to the radio.

fripodding and heavy rotation albums of 2009

Just like last year, I have a Top Ten of what I call Heavy Rotation 2009. By the way, Happy New Year. These are the albums most played by iSaac and I this past year. Mind you, some of these albums actually came out last year, some came out a few years before, and some… much longer. I chose complete albums (rather than a few songs) that I’d let play mostly in its entirety. Since the majority of the album is great, I will limit myself to at most three songs per album. I choose three because that’s always been the rule of them back in the day when I (or my sister) would buy a CD. Why buy a CD for one song, right?

10. Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant – Wyclef Jean

I’m not ashamed to admit I started out as a Clef fan post-Fugees. I loved the first Carnival album and heard good things about this album but never got around to purchasing it, much less hearing anything from it. I finally managed to get a copy by the end of 2008 and couldn’t stop listening to it since. To make my choices of favorite songs easier, I’d say the first half of the album contains my most favorite songs: Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill), King & Queen, and Fast Car. Two out of three of these songs have music videos I was unaware of until months after memorizing the lyrics to them. Like the first carnival, there are many different types of music styles going on and it’s a fresh feeling. Plus the lyrics are good. I like the guest spots too. And I’m breaking my own rule but I like Touch Your Button for its complete Caribbean party theme.

9. Legend – Bob Marley

For a good majority of my life, I had only heard a handful of Marley’s songs. Mostly I would just hear One Love orJamming. It turns some of my favorite songs on this album are No Woman No Cry, I Shot the Sheriff and Stir It Up. The latter one being the most mellow and soothing to me during a stressful day at work. I immediately transport to some relaxing island. Most of the album does this to me though, and I like to play it every so often to escape the frigid New England… even when it isn’t that cold out.

8. Lotus Flow3r / MPLSound – Prince

Technically this Prince album is made up of 3 discs, and can be considered its own separate album each. I don’t mean to confuse you, but that’s how the album was sold in stores (at Target). I can’t really choose between which of the two albums is better, but I have figured out that Lotus sounds like a “daytime” album and MPL sounds more for the night. My favorite track on the Lotus side is 4Ever. It’s just a beautiful love song. Actually there are quite a few pretty ones on here. On the MPL side, it feels a bit more like the party or club scene with the first few songs. Dance 4 Me is probably the song I play the most on this album. Most of these albums aren’t necessarily seamless, but they work very well playing from one song to the next.

7. The Law of Confession Part 1 – Donald Lawrence & Co.

My sister and brother-in-law let me borrow this album, and for about a month I couldn’t stop listening to it. Not only was the music good, but the lyrics and meanings struck a nerve with me. Especially at that time when I was going through some things in my life, the album helped me spiritually. Oh yeah, it’s a gospel album. Somewhat traditional with the choirs and such… but it’s not really like choirs you might be used to. Back II Eden and There is a King in You are a couple songs that I played the most. This is a live CD too, just FYI.

6. Folie A Deux – Fall Out Boy

I remember buying this album around the end of the year, but couldn’t stop listening to it for a good half of the year. I also bought The Roots album around this time too. I listened to this album more so that’s why I’m writing about them. Don’t get me wrong, much, much love to The Roots. Notable songs I loved here: 20 Dollar Nose Bleed, Tiffany Blews and Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet. To be honest, the songs released as singles would join this list… but I limited myself to three songs each, remember? Like most Fall Out Boy songs, the lyrics are intriguing, but so is the music.

5. The Blueprint 3 – Jay Z

I’m not really the biggest Jay Z fan. I like The Black Album and a few songs here and there. But I wasn’t expecting to pick up this album until I heard the third single, which I liked, and thus fulfilled the quota of album purchasing. Rather than tell you about the songs you already know, I will tell you about two that I really like. A Star Is Born is a song where Jay Z gives credit where credit is due. I think that song is pretty awesome just letting other rappers know that he has respect for them. J. Cole’s verse is nice too. Young Forever is just a very easy going song and a nice way to end a good album. I have yet to look up where the song is sampled from, but in the meantime I shall just enjoy it as is. Jay Z said he wanted to focus more on the instruments in these songs. I’d say he’d accomplished that and I approve.

4. Revealed – Deitrick Haddon

I had this album on a waiting list since forever ago. I feel really ashamed for such a thing because once I heard some of the songs for the first time, I was like… what was I waiting for? This is awesome! This is another gospel album but is not traditional gospel. There are influences of rock as well as hip hop/urban beats. I’ve already been a fan of his music for some time though. And before I forget, shout out to my Uncle Jazzy Jordon for being exec producer for this and Donald Lawrence’s album mentioned above. This album also touches me spiritually. Songs I like are Where You Are, Running to You and Ungrateful. This is actually another instance where it’s difficult to pick just three songs… so perhaps in the future this album will get it’s own post.

3. BLACKsummers’night – Maxwell

Have you heard about this album? Or the fact that this very talented artist has been MIA for the past few years? And the fact that this is only part one of a trilogy? I’m so excited to hear the rest of this but for now, I must say that this album is excellent. This is what soul music is all about. This is what music in general is all about. Now I’m having difficulty picked a third song to note out so I’ll only do two: Pretty Wings and Help Somebody. Okay… I’ll include Love You. There is some soul-pouring in that one.

2. 21st Century Breakdown – Green Day

The fact that I saw these guys in concert plays a huge role in why they are so high on my list. Not that they don’t deserve a big number or to be on my list at all, but you get the point. Once again, I’ll ignore the singles released because I liked those… so I’ll focus on the songs you’d need to hear directly from the album like the song burning ballad Last Night on Earth (which I actually listened to moments after watching a bon fire). I liked Restless Heart Syndrome. And I think my instant favorite was The Static Age. I’ll just throw in that when they played this song at their concert, I went crazy. I also loved when they did 21 Guns because of a giant graphic of a gun on screen behind them that would fire at key moments. That and the sparks falling onto the stage. But did I just claim a fourth song?

1. Michael Jackson

I don’t have a particular album. If you are like me, you have several album or just several songs to make up your own playlist of your favorite songs. I’ve had several before his tragic death, but one of my all time favorites since I was wee was Dirty Diana. I managed to pick up a few more songs after his death, a few that I had never heard or knew about but grew extremely fond of like Static Shock. Since this is MJ, I’ll just add two more. In The Closet I heard for the first time last year and grew attached. However I think the other most played song from him by me is P.Y.T.

So that’s my Top Ten of 2009’s Heavy Rotations. My guess for this coming year might start with some ladies named Alicia and Gaga. But we’ll find out this December or next January. Hopefully I’ll be more consistent in my posting. It’s not like I don’t have anything to write about… trust me, I do.

fripodding and wrapping: all alone on christmas – darlene love

I found myself home alone tonight finishing up my Christmas present wrapping, also trying to decide who to post tonight. I figured I’d connect with my last post with my Top Ten Christmassy movies. It’s pretty obvious from the music video what movie this is from, but in no way does that make the song any less great.

I will note, one year I really broke down the lyrics and thought about how many people actually are alone on Christmas. It really made me sad. At the time, I was quite young and there wasn’t much I could do about it. But I did start appreciating family and friends around me on that special day. For the past couple years I’ve bought toys for little kids. Not exactly Toys for Tots, but still a good charity. And no it’s not making someone less lonely, but it is nice to show someone that they are cared about.

Anyway, despite the message in the song, it’s still great to sing along to with Darlene’s awesome voice. I had a hard time choosing between this song and “I Listen to the Bells” by Luther Vandross and Darlene Love. As you can see, I provided a link, but this friDay’s pick is below.

Top Ten Christmassy Movies

There are some classic holiday films that everyone has seen, loved, and warms the cockles of their hearts like It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th St., or any version of A Christmas Carol in the last 90 years. And no, I have not yet seen the newest incarnation from Disney, but it does look like fun. There are also new specials and holiday themed movies that come out every year and it’s hard to keep up with some of them. To be honest, some of them aren’t worth it. But the list of Yuletide mainstays goes on and you can ask me why [missing movie title] isn’t included if you would like. Depending on the movie, I can probably simply answer, “No sir, I just don’t like it.” Or I haven’t seen it yet. But it’s also difficult to rate the ones I have seen and liked, so given my mood at any given time, these ratings are subject to change.

10.  The Thin Man – Not actually a Christmas movie, but it takes place during Christmastime. It’s about a detective and his wife investigating a recent murder in town. I love the wit, humor and banter of this married couple. I think The Thin Man series is underrated anyway, and I’m looking for the box set to be under my Christmas tree this year (hint, hint).

9.  MST3K: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians – Technically, what I’m listing here is an episode of the cult classic TV show “Mystery Science Theater 3000” (MST3K).  A group of guys riff and joke throughout really bad movies and incidentally make them hilarious and quite watchable. The plot of the movie isn’t all that important, I just suggest finding this on DVD if you can. Netflix is good for this. Also look for the “Santa Claus” episode as well.

8.  Scrooged – Out of all the Christmas Carol stories out there, I liked this one the most. I’d say it’s one of the more modern versions of the story starring the brilliant Bill Murray as a Scrooge-esque TV exec.

7.  Nightmare Before Christmas – Debate: Is this a Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie? I’d say both, but more on the Christmas side since that’s what the main character is obsessed with. Whether you consider this a Halloween classic or a Christmas classic, I would consider it a film classic for anytime of the year.

6.  How The Grinch Stole Christmas – I am including the book, the cartoon version, and the movie. Hey, might as well include the song too. I love this story and I always get the warm tinglies when the Grinch realizes that Christmas comes without ribbons, tags, boxes or bags, and later how his heart grows three sizes in a day. And we can’t forget the song the Whos sing. I don’t know the words but I want some roast beast and Who hash.

5.  Twas the Night Before Christmas – The animated Rankin/Bass classic that is a necessity every year. It features a clockmaker who makes a special clock for Santa, and the little clockmaker mice that help him. One of the reasons I like this special is due to the songs and nostalgia of simpler times. Not surprisingly, I could probably quote all the unsung dialogue in this as well. It’s also one of my favorite representations of the classic poem… that is until I saw a version that mixed this story with that of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven.” (See here.)

4.  Love, Actually – This is a Christmas-romantic-dramedy for grown-ups. It’s the only R-rated movie on this list, actually. But it’s equally charming, funny, warm, and maybe a bit painful for some. It’s an ensemble piece with interwoven tales of couples in and out of love around Christmas. A few of my friends started a tradition of watching this movie every year simply because there were some characters or situations we could all relate to.

3.  Toy Story – I probably wouldn’t expect people to consider this movie a Christmas movie, although the story does end on Christmas Day. It makes me think of Christmas possibly because I got the movie as a Christmas present. And it’s about toys. Other than birthdays, when else do you get lots of toys?

2.  Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – I can hear the question now, what happened to the first one? Well, I owned Home Alone 2 and have only seen Home Alone a handful of times. Both are hilarious movies, but I like Home Alone 2 more. I’m also a fan of New York City and I think this movie is what helped cause my love for it at my young impressionable age.

1.  A Charlie Brown Christmas – Surely you can’t deny this one. There isn’t really much I need to say because I’m pretty sure you may have seen it. If not, go now, immediately. Who hasn’t pointed out a “Charlie Brown tree” before? Or ever try dancing like any of the Peanuts kids (when they are supposed to be rehearsing a play)? And who hasn’t sung Christmas songs with wide open mouths and heads back towards the sky? Ah, good times. And let’s not forget the infamous scene where Charlie Brown, confused and frustrated with his play, commercialism and aluminum trees, asks aloud what Christmas is really about. Enter Linus, the scholar, quoting from the Bible and revealing the true meaning of Christmas. I’d also recommend It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown. It’s indeed a good follow up to the original.

Here are a few honorable mentions:

Any Rankin/Bass Production (Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, Frosty the Snowman, etc.)

  • The Preacher’s Wife
  • Jingle All The Way
  • The Santa Clause
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • Friday After Next

’tis the night santa visted…

I was deep within a search for a certain song/video/cartoon/memory that was straight out of the depths my childhood when I happened to find this fantastic rendition of the beloved poetic tale of the nightly visit from Santa. Rather than spoil the fun, I’ll let you enjoy on your own. Due to the “cheeriness” of the video’s tone, be mindful of who you are watching it around so as not to startle wee children.

It only seems appropriate that if Poe were to encounter Santa, it’d be something like this. But what I love is the illustrations and voice characterization. Brilliant, brilliant work.

And just in case you were curious as to what exactly I was looking for, it was this. Probably my favorite Rankin/Bass production that I watch every year.

lady gaga bad romances the indoob

So I wasn’t going to post anything today, but I checked some stats and hits and thanks to the lovely Lady Gaga, the Indoob shot up over 100% of hits since yesterday’s friPod post.

I’ve admitted to many before that I’m not really a fan of Gaga, but she definitely impresses me in just about everything she does. Music, wardrobe, videos. Live performances especially. I’ll be honest and say that I really had no idea what to think of her when I first saw her in “Just Dance” but knew I didn’t care much for her or her music. But I did some homework, and she’s technically been around for a while mostly playing in the background, writing songs for many other popular acts. Now she has her time to shine, and I think “shine” may be a bit of an understatement at this point.

Not only is she illuminating, but she’s proving that she will be a force to be reckoned with. Love her or hate her, you will know her name. And if you don’t know… well… you kinda just read it… but if you run into someone who doesn’t know, they will before 2010 ends. Not that there’s anything big going on that I’m aware of next year, but that’s just how these things work out.

So am I a fan? I’ll say that the Indoob is. I’ll also put it this way: if I’m handed tickets to her show for free, I’d probably go. Depending how many tickets I’m given would make it a difficult choice who I take with me. But that’s a pretty big hypothetical on it’s own right.

So on behalf of the Indoob, thanks and kudos to Lady Gaga for being a great source of intriguing, creative, provocative and original entertainment. You’re definitely a star to be watched.
