fripodding and keying: “brothers” album by the black keys

So lately I’ve been going on, and on about The Black Keys… maybe after today I’ll shut up about them for a little while. But why would I when I hear music I can’t put down? Literally. In fact, iSaac and I have been fighting about whether to continue playing James Hunter or The Black Keys (when in reality, I could just make a playlist featuring both, but that would be too easy).

While I may be a few weeks late from the actual release date of this album, you should know by now that it takes me a few days–sometimes a few weeks–to really dig into an album to truly enjoy it. Such is the case with The Black Keys’ latest: Brothers.

This is the first album I bought from them, but not the first song. I’ll more than likely in the near future begin investigating more of their back catalog. I’m actually trying to write a short review here, so the key songs I love that currently aren’t released as singles that I haven’t talked about are: “Sinister Kid”, “The Go Getter”, “Unknown Brother”, and a top favorite “Everlasting Light”.

I can listen to this album without skipping songs. For me, this tends to be an album that slips into the background of whatever I’m doing, which is a good thing. I also like listening to this album while driving, especially the upbeat tracks. This album, as well as the band and their particular brand of blues-rock, is perfect for the summer. Their music produces heat, or at least helps you sweat.  Sounds a bit odd, now that I mention it. But working out or driving around in the high noon sun, and I think you might understand what I’m talking about.
