the facebook vs. the lost dial analysis

Lately, I can’t help but wonder if my “hiatus” from Facebook is having a negative effect on The Lost Dial. Being the tech behind the show, I’m constantly watching how many times our show is listened to, how many people visit the site, pretty much just keeping tabs on visitors. On both Pod Bean and Facebook, numbers seem to  be dwindling. Or perhaps it’s just what every show/podcast in history goes through?

I’ve noticed the dip start to happen around the time I stopped regularly promoting the show on my Facebook wall. In fact, it was part of my experiment. My Twitter followers know I talk about the show quite frequently. Ironically, the days I’m most quiet (on Twitter) are the days I’m in the studio. It’s hard to keep up with tweeting about what we’re talking about or what we did talk about when you’re in the flow. Plus, after the show, we tend to have a “debriefing” and discuss how the show went, plans for next week, plans for the rest of the day, and what inappropriate thing Barb recently said. (Listen to the show to find out more about that.) (more…)

finding the lost dial

I neglected to mention what I’ve been up to the past few weeks and the radio (and now podcast) I’m apart of now. We’re called The Lost Dial, my comrades are called the Lost Dial Crew… or The LD Crew… or just the crew…

What are we about? Well, anything newsworthy or worth talking about. We aim for the morning drive style of talk radio, giving you news and fact in an informal and amusing way. We have our opinions and we aren’t afraid to voice them. The show was conceived from the leader of the crew, Mike D. He’s joined by co-hosts C-Loss (Chris) and myself. Our producer is Carolyn who sometimes joins in on the banter. She’s often heard in the background either laughing or throwing in witty remarks from the couch or anywhere else around the studio. Pete and Sharon the Cougar give us charity news every week, and Haley gives us local music reports.

The show’s grassroots of The Lost Dial come from our graduating class of Connecticut School of Broadcasting. We had to do a talk radio show for one of our finals, we enjoyed it so much, we decided to keep it going. Actually, it’s one of the perks of being a graduate at CSB and it’s encouraged for potential employers to check us out and maybe hire us for a radio station outside of the school.

My job, besides being a personality, is board operator and social network contact. I share some of those duties with Carolyn, but for the most part, I’m making sure we have a presence the internets. I admit I haven’t been doing a lot of tweeting with our official Twitter @TheLostDial, but I’m hoping to change that now that we are getting a bigger following.

One of the jobs I’m most proud of is setting our show up as a podcast. Even as I type this, I’m waiting to hear if iTunes will accept our humble podcast in their immense stable. But in the meantime, you can download us over at PodBean (and coincidentally, subscribe until iTunes includes us in their store).

So please, take a listen to the show! Like us! Be a fan! Send us feedback! (We’ll give you a shout out too!)

“the morning after” radio show

Damian, Pixie, Sterling Silver

Check out our morning show. This was our talk radio final at Connecticut School of Broadcasting. We produced everything… everything you hear except the few songs that we play, we created. Join me, Sterling Silver, and my fellow co-hosts Pixie and Damian as we talk about current events and whatever else that pops in our head.

Part of the morning format is to include weather, traffic, sports and news. We don’t do a tradition news report since that’s one of the many things we talk about. But listen for Pale for weather, Farmboy for traffic and concert report, Mike D for sports and Flaco for urban news. Ogre, our board op, also interviews local artists the Steve Dunn Band. Sorry to disappoint, but our “contest” was made up, but they are a real band and they make good music.

Click the link and/or download the show itself. I’m working on a better way to stream it so here’s the best I can do for now. You can also check this out on my new Tumblr too.

The Morning After Radio Show

So tell me what you think. Would you listen to this every morning? Did you listen to all of it? And did you know which commercials I did?
