chatting with kevin marc: part 2 [video]

It’s been almost a year since Kevin Marc and I last had an impromptu interview, but this time we planned it out as we have a sit-down talk about upcoming events in the KMTV universe. I’m still getting used to being an interviewer, but it’s easy when the person you’re talking to is as silly as you are.

Around the 18:30 mark, Kevin and I pose a question about tweeting in all caps. Do you agree with him? Have any thoughts on that subject or anything else in the interview? Hit the comments.

chatting with kevin marc

Hey Indoobians. I’m technically still on hiatus, but I was in shooting/editing mode and I decided to have a quick chat with my buddy, fellow CSB classmate and Renaissance man Kevin Marc. Watch here as we shoot the breeze about inspirations, books, and forest critters we see behind the school. There will be more videos to follow. In the meantime, follow him on Facebook  (twice) and YouTube. The kid does his own reality show and as much as I dislike reality TV, I can’t help but cosign since I find myself watching it.

Anyway, in this video, I forgot to add his Twitter and his Tumblr. Fame whore…

And yes, I am holding back a video many of you may have already seen by now, or at least you’ve seen it on my Vimeo channel. By the way, how do you like the new 3S:FX Productions logo?

Canon VIXIA HF M3000

I feel like I’ve been away for a while, but I notice my last post was actually only 10 days ago. But still, that’s much longer than I like to be away from my beloved blog. Anyway, I wasn’t going to do a video, but I have a new camera so why not? Plus, I haven’t made a video in a while, so I might as well give it a spin, right? Let me know what you think. Maybe with this new toy, I’ll make more videos. This will also allow me to get out of my office (and detached from my laptop) as you’ll see below. I think it’s a major upgrade from the webcam…

As for the pics I mentioned, I’ll upload those ASAP and introduce a few of my classmates and talk a little bit more about what I’m up to.

architecture, drive-ins and fun in the city

I took a day trip to “the city” yesterday with my wonderful friend Magdalena. We had an impromptu photo session throughout the city taking pictures of buildings, food and each other. We managed to take in a movie, a very awesome indie flick I doubt many people know about, called Happythankyoumoreplease. A review for that film will be coming up sooner or later, but for now, here are some shots of my amateur photography skills. The pro I was shooting with is building her portfolio. I was just shooting for fun, and rephrasing a line from the movie: I like to take pictures of things I like looking at so I can continue to keep looking at them.

fripodding and the nymph: corinne bailey rae

For the past week and a half, I keep going back to this voice. It feeds a certain part of my musical soul, it’s soothing and calming like a gentle breeze or a cool, but not too cold, refreshing glass of water. From her self titled album to The Sea, sometimes I can’t get enough of this artist that reminds me of a woodland nymph.

Why do I call the lovely and talented Corinne Bailey Rae a nymph? Let’s take a quick look at the definition of what a nymph is:

–noun

1. one of a numerous class of lesser deities of mythology, conceived of as beautiful maidens inhabiting the sea, rivers, woods, trees, mountains, meadows, etc., and frequently mentioned as attending a superior deity.

2. a beautiful or graceful young woman.

3. a maiden.

4. the young of an insect that undergoes incomplete metamorphosis.

Google her, she's gorgeous

Okay, so the 4th doesn’t apply to her… but I’m more interested in the first two. She definitely has a graceful and beautiful voice as well as being a beautiful woman. She also keeps that young look about her. I mean she in her 30s, but she looks like she’s in her 20s if not younger. Or is it just me? Her looks also remind me of a former girlfriend of mine of many years ago… I think… Wasn’t much of a singer though, but that’s another story. The point is, they both were insanely cute.

As for the woodland part, well, did you see the definition? The sea is in there and that was her second album! (As of right now, I’m not sure why it’s titled “The Sea” but based on album covers, the way her music flows, and just the nature about her, I can imagine her enjoying life to the fullest when she’s outside in nature… like a woodland nymph.)

"The Sea"

As I said earlier, her music is soothing and relaxing. I could easily enjoy driving around town listening to her as I would having her lullaby me to sleep. For safety reasons, I wouldn’t do both at the same time. But her voice seems to tread along with the instruments ever so gently, even if she’s singing with accompaniment at all… It’s just gorgeous to the ears.

Then there are the few songs that she kicks it up a few notches from soothing to sexy like one of my favorite songs “Closer.” The up-tempo jazziness of it all would make one want to get up and get their groove on a little. Don’t you think? Here’s the live rendition of that song.

As a side note, I’m a fan of many of the mainstream and more popular artists out there, but I seriously appreciate some of those who have raw and almost unseen talent like Corinne. I’m not saying no one knows about her, I’m just saying it’s too bad artists like these aren’t household names. But at the same time, I’m not too sad because it’ll like an awesome secret or an exclusive club. If you dig her music, you’re in the club… which is probably outdoors.

the daniel fast (10 days)

February started out on a pretty life changing note. A day after I got “the call“, I went to bible study, which I don’t regularly go like I should. The lesson for the night was teaching from the book of Daniel, and discussed Daniel’s fast and what brought him to do this. You can read the whole 1st chapter of Daniel, but the main part of the story is found in Daniel 1:8-17.

To sum up, Daniel and his three buddies were among servants to the king and had been given the best foods and wines that the king appointed for them. Daniel and Co. didn’t want to defile themselves with king’s food, so he asked for just vegetables and water, and after 10 days, compare how they look to the rest of the servants who had been eating the king’s food. (The king wasn’t the greatest guy in the world, although I’m sure his food was awesome, but Daniel didn’t want any part of it.) At the end of the 10 days, Daniel and his buddies were compared to the rest of the servants and they had looked better than the rest of them. God also blessed them with intelligence and wisdom and for Daniel, the ability to interpret dreams and visions.

place your bets: oscar picks of 2011

I desperately wanted to do a special Oscar prediction video for you guys but believe it or not, it takes me longer to record and edit a video than it does for me to write what I was going to say. But no worries, hopefully I’ll have a video recap for you on Monday. And due to my technically difficulties (as well as life happening), that’s why you’re just now hearing about my picks when I usually decide fairly early.

Some picks this year were no brainers like Natalie Portman and Christian Bale, while others I had to take a guess or I feel is a tie since both were so good. Then of course, there are the inevitable few that I don’t know anything about so I’m just guessing for guessing’s sake or from what I hear from any past media buzz that may have been going on the past months. I don’t actually bet money but if I did, my picks are based on who I think would win, not who should win. As you’ll notice, I voice my opinion on both or why I chose what I chose. But, on to the picks! My picks are in bold. (more…)

Most people–magazines, websites, TV shows have had their Best of 2010 list already out by the last week of December or the first week of January. So I’m a bit late. I’ve also whittled down my list to only one thing only because I haven’t seen it that often on anyone else’s lists. Watch the video to learn what it is and why I picked it.

What one thing did you like most about 2010? Are you up on this game?

fripodding can be exhausting

My makeshift workshop

My fellow Indoobians! I wholeheartedly apologize for the lack of friPods last week and now this week. As I often say, and seemingly saying more often than just regular often, “life happens.” And life has been happening more than I can live. Okay, I’m not sure that even makes sense…

Just to update as to what in life is going on, I currently have about 3-4 jobs. I mention these on Twitter on occasion and refer to them as Job #1, #2 and #3.

  1. Job #1 is the office job I’ve had for the past few years and as of about 2 years ago, I got the opportunity to work at home. It’s mostly pretty awesome, but it has it’s setbacks. For example, I don’t get snow days. Also, if the power goes out, I can’t escape from the darkness to my home because I’m already there. The pros outweigh the cons so I won’t bother finding other nuisances. Again, I like working at home. And only 2% of the time do I work in my pajamas. I get dressed because I’m anxious to get out of the house whenever I can.
  2. Job #2 is my tech job at my church. It mostly started with being the A/V guy, which I’m really just the A because we haven’t gotten into V yet. But I take care of the audio equipment and make sure everything sounds nice. Due to our church growing and expanding into some other areas of business, I needed to take care of the computer situations. Not only have a been the techie for my family, but now I’m the go-to guy at my church. In a few weeks or so I’ll be starting a computer class for those who want to learn how to use these machines a little better. I’ve also recently acquired a projector, so that’ll make things easier for teaching purposes. Oh yeah, and I’m the webmaster too.
  3. Job #3, which I’ve spoken very little about here, is my first freelance job for a local online newspaper called Patch. Maybe you’ve heard of it? I’ve written a few articles for them so far and have a few other plans lined up in the coming weeks. Being a freelancer, I’m not really on call that often, so it’s more of a part-time job. But when I am working, I put my all into it.

I’d like to add a job #4, but it’s kinda hard to call being a go-for a job? My family is very hard working and we are the central core to the church (my dad is the pastor). So whatever needs to be done, sometimes I’m the one that’s called. I spoke about this earlier this week. But between picking up items or people or working on routers or laptops, some of my off-time is filled with these odd jobs. And I’m not complaining about it, but it can be tiresome. Shoveling snow is at the bottom of the list of things I enjoy doing. Cooking dinner, pretty sweet. But hey, we gotta live!

So I said all that to say this: some weeks I just might not be able to get to do a friPod post as badly as I’d like to. Mostly because I don’t have the time. I really would like to start getting into making a few more videos, but recording them is one task, editing them is something else. I enjoy both, but I need a good hour. And unlike blogging, I’m not always in the mood to record and/or edit. But I did promise a video regarding my last friPod and I will deliver eventually. I will also continue my subject on neoretro-soul.

With that, I want you all to know I’m still dedicated to the Indoob, I just need to work on my time management skills. But now I’m off to work on a wireless router and maybe catch a local comedy show.

a dreamer of dreams

My fellow Indoobians have probably noticed my lack of involvement here on my blog or even on the Internets as of late. A few tweets here and there, but my presence has since been minimal for the better part of the last couple weeks.

And my absence hasn’t been intentional, but probably necessary. A now famous mantra for me is to say “life happens.” And for some reason I can’t fathom, life happens to me in great massive chunks like beef stew ought to be prepared. And kids, I’ve had a rather large serving recently and only the past few days I’ve been able to process all that life has to offer. (more…)
