I was and still am pretty excited about this movie since it takes place and is filmed in and around the New Haven area. FYI, I’m a Connecticut native and the Elm City is where I was born. However, I didn’t figure this out until later in the film when characters were throwing town names around and I had to run to IMDb and Wikipedia. The filmmaker is from New Haven and some scenes were actually filmed in his childhood home.
Anyway, my initial allure to this film came from watching the trailer. I don’t usually include trailers for my reviews (because I’m lazy) but this one I think is beneficial to what I feel is an under appreciated, little know indie flick.
Take note that the lead actress practically tells you the true plot of this film. And after watching this movie, I also must applaud how well done this trailer was made. I’ll explain in 2 minutes… (more…)
This is, or maybe was, a pretty good example of an “Oscar bait” film. In case you never heard of that term, it’s a film that has grade A acting, directing, writing, etc. It pretty much has to make critics swoon about some aspect of the movie if not the whole thing, and then come awards season, it racks up the nominations to various other awards and may get close, if not winning, the Academy Award itself.
So, how bout those Giants?
I wanted to start this review by stating plans or the possibility of this film having a sequel. But I’ll get to that later. Honestly, I don’t have a problem with Hollywood wanting to follow up a hit money maker if there is more story than can be told. But without seeing the film and knowing the premise is about employees plotting to kill their employers, it leaves you wondering.
Angry Birds.
I still have yet to see the original Planet of the Apes, even with all my movie viewing prowess. I never had a strong interest, to tell you the truth. I have seen what has been called the “horrible remake” by Tim Burton. I guess I’d have to original to fully understand why the remake was so bad. But I’m not talking about that film right now, we’re discussing the prequel.
Rather than waste everyone’s time, I’m going to attempt to keep this one short. I was overall very bored by this movie. I don’t know if it was the time of day I started watching it, the fact that I was already a bit tired after watching a movie before it, or maybe the story was as dry as the dessert the film took place, but I had to fight to stay awake to finish it.
